Tutorial of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)

Next

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a new buzz word in the world of computing. SOA has evolved from age old computing concepts like modular/OOPS programming, Component based development(CBD) and distributed computing. It differentiates each module as a separate service. And a group of these services form parts of a Service-Oriented-Architecture of a system.

This tutorial takes you through the nitty gritties of an SOA

  • Introduction: The corner stone of SOA is a Service. A Service runs as a separate entity and has specific functionality in the form of requests and responses. The underlying complexity of each service is not visible to the other services.
  • Web Services, XML, WSDL & SOAP: This is a brief section about relationship of SOA with other technologies like XML, WSDL etc.
  • Use SOA Judiciously: There is a fine line between technology addiction and proper technology usage. SOA should not be used just for the sake of using it rather it should be used judiciously.
  • Big Picture: This section takes a real world system into consideration and explains how SOA fits into the big picture.
